
Grand Master Wong Fei Hung, founder of „Modern Hung Kyun“, was one of the most famous Masters of Southern Chinese boxing.
Among his special skills belonged long pole fighting, Fei Tou (weight attached to the rope) and so called „Ten Lethal Bare Hand Techniques“ (Sap Duk Sau), ten unique and secret combat techniques thanks to whom he was never defeated.
“Ten Lethal Bare Hand Techniques” or “Ten Killing Hands“ is in Chinese Sap Duk Sau or Sap Jyut Sau. Character Duk means literally „poisonous“, killing“, „lethal“; however, different character with same pronounciation (Duk) means „unique“, „special“. Question: I have heard that Tit Sin Kyun is not for fighting, but for training the internal energy and for making the bridge hands stronger and more pliable. I find this to be a contridiction, because Lam Sai Wing treatise indicate that it is the best set to strengthen one for combat. I understand that the movements of set is for manipulating and moving Chi to different parts of the body, but does that mean that the hand have no combat use?
I was training in Hong Kong’s Lam Gwun under the guidance of my Si Baak, Simon Lam Chun Chung, brother of my Sifu. We were discussing application of various Hung Ga techniques as well as fighting strategy and of course, training methodology.
Hung Ga Grand Master Y. C. Wong is a true pioneer of Lam family Hung Kyun in the USA. After completing his apprenticeship under Late Grand Master Lam Jou and teaching in Hong Kong, he has moved to the United States in 1963 – he is teaching there for 50 years!
