“Arrow Palm” (Jin Jeung), also called “War Palm” (same pronunciation but different Chinese character) is an old Southern Chinese set from the Southern Siu Lam monastery.

When the monastery was burned down, the last abbot of the temple, Ji Sin Sim Si, fled to the Gwong Dung province and hid in the “Red Junks” of the Chinese opera (Hung Syun Hei Baan ), where he taught (among other martial arts skills ) Jin Jeung. Continue reading

Hung Ga Kyun’s “Eight Trigrams Long Pole” (Ng Long Baat Gwa Gwan)

Ng Long’s Eight Trigrams Long Pole (Ng Long Baat Gwa Gwan)The 4 most famous sets with the “single-ended” long pole (Daan Tau Gwan) are “Six and Half Point Long Pole” (Luk Dim Bun Gwan), “The Flowing Water Long Pole” (Lau Seui Gwan), “Left-Handed Fisherman´s Long Pole (Jo Sau Diu Yu Gwan) and the “Ng Long’s Eight Trigrams Long Pole” (Ng Long Baat Gwa Gwan).

It is often called simply “Eight Trigrams Long Pole” (Baat Gwa Gwan) and it is probably the most famous and most important weapon of the Hung Kyun system.

Grand Master Wong Fei Hung, founder of „Modern Hung Kyun“, was one of the most famous Masters of Southern Chinese boxing.

Among his special skills belonged long pole fighting, Fei Tou (weight attached to the rope) and so called „Ten Lethal Bare Hand Techniques“ (Sap Duk Sau), ten unique and secret combat techniques thanks to whom he was never defeated.

“Ten Lethal Bare Hand Techniques” or “Ten Killing Hands“ is in Chinese Sap Duk Sau or Sap Jyut Sau. Character Duk means literally „poisonous“, killing“, „lethal“; however, different character with same pronounciation (Duk) means „unique“, „special“. Same goes for two different characters pronounce as Jyut. Continue reading

“Cross-Pattern Three-Sectional Chain Whip” (Sap Ji Saam Jit Bin)

Hung Ga Kyun Three Sectional Chain WhipThe chain whip was included in the modern Hung Kyun curriculum by Wong Fei Hung or one of the masters of previous generations. According to some sources, it comes from Lam Fuk Sing.

In ancient China, whips used to be used as a hidden weapon. A warrior usually wore them tied around his waist or diagonally across a shoulder and were only used after he lost his primary or secondary weapon (eg. spear or saber).

The length of the weapon depends on the user – held by the waist, it should reach almost to the ground. This type of metal “whip” is also called the “Three-Sectional Chain Whip” (Saam Jit Bin); in other (especially northern) styles, we can see five, seven, nine or even 13-sectional whips, usually longer. Gold Medal at 9th Wong Fei Hung Cup, China 2013 (Video)

Petr Vrana won a gold medal at 9th Wong Fei Hung Cup, China 2013Petr Vrána, brother of Pavel Macek Sifu, won a Gold Medal and became a Grand Champion of 9th Wong Fei Hung Cup in Fat Saan, China!

Petr has also received a honorary title Mou Jong Yun (highest rank in the imperial military examinations) and special premium price.

Petr is currently living in Canton with his wife Lenka and daughter Berta and continues his Hung Ga Kyun studies under Grand Master Lam Chun Sing!

Hung Ga Kyun Long Pole Sparring Set Hung Ga Grand Master Y. C. Wong is a true pioneer of Lam family Hung Kyun in the USA. After completing his apprenticeship under Late Grand Master Lam Jou and teaching in Hong Kong, he has moved to the United States in 1963 – he is teaching there for 50 years!
