“Sabre vs. Spear Sparring Set” (Daan Dou Deui Cheung) is traditionaly a second weapon sparring set of Lam Family Hung Kyun curriculum. It teaches the application of short vs. long weapon. “Sabre vs. Spear” was originally choreographed by Grand Master Lam Jou.
The spear is known as “King of Hundred Weapons” (Baak Bing Ji Wong), as well as “King of All Long Weapons” (Cheung Bing Ji Wong). It is one of the most common Chinese warfare/duel weapons.
The direct thrust of the spear is one of the most feared weapon attacks – that is why most of the sparring sets of Lam Family Hung Kyun are trained against the spear.
“Sabre vs. Spear” uses not only the typical spear fighting techniques (especially continuous spear thrusts to the upper, middle and low gates), but strikes with the other end of the spear as well.
Check out the rare vintage video from 1992’s of my Sifu, Grand Master Lam Chun Sing, and his training brother, Mr. Chan Kai Lung, performing the “Sabre vs. Spear Sparring Set”.
